Dear Mama –
Well, I haven’t anything to write but this will let you know that I am doing fine. I hope this finds you well and that your finger is a lot better. Mama, it is really wintertime out here in the mountains and we will probably have snow anytime. Sometimes the clouds are so low that we can’t see the mountain tops. Well, a few men are getting discharged every day so I should be out sometime between now and Nov. 1. I am not doing much but eating and sleeping and I really do a lot of both. Try to do without a heater until I get home and I will try and get us a good one. Our barracks sit over half way up a mountain and we have two oil heaters that keep this place plenty warm. I have you a virgin wool muffler, army issue,

If I can just find room to bring all my stuff home. I wasn’t going to bring my overcoat home but it looks like I will have to wear it until I get in another climate. I always wanted to see California but with the exception of a few cities they can give it all away. Mom, there isn’t any news so I will close, doubting if you can read it from the positions I write in.
Goodnight
Lots & lots of love & kisses
