Dear Mama –
Just a few lines to let you know that I am doing fine and I hope this finds you well. I received a letter from you today and I was sure sorry to hear that you had mashed your finger. It has been raining here all day and the weather is pretty close to freezing tonight. This is the rainy season and it is liable to rain for two weeks without stopping. I was sorry to hear about Austin getting into trouble and I hope he got out of it O.K.. We have but very little excitement in this camp as it is pretty well isolated up here in the mountains. I was on K.P. yesterday and was pretty well tired when I got off so I didn’t lose much time getting into bed. This will probably be my last K.P. duty for this stretch in

the army. Well, I guess Gene and ToTo are married by this time and I am glad for both of them. I can’t understand why her parents were so down on him as I think they were lucky for her to get such a good boy. Mama, I believe you wrote me that Carrie was in Alaska, well if she went it cost somone[someone] besides Uncle Sam a good pile of money, probably Francis. We really eat good in this camp and there is more fruit and milk than we ever use. I still haven’t found me a bag and now my billfold is shot but I can get one of them in the Trading Post. We have a railroad station right on the past as the past takes in the town of Campo. Mama, I hope Ola isn’t sick as I think everyday that maybe I will hear from her or else Anna or Norma. Although I don’t write I still think

of them and I will be home pretty soon and can tell them more than I can write. Tell Anna I have her a nice little book if I can hold on to it until I get there. Well, I am getting chilly so I think I will close and go to bed, so,
Goodnight
Lots & lots of love & kisses
Bill
