Dear Mama –
I can’t write much tonight but I want you to know that I am feeling fine and I hope you are well and enjoying your visit. Mama, when you get this letter don’t write any more until I tell you as I might have a good big surprise for you. We aren’t working very much so I think I will walk over to the ball game in a few minutes. I was supposed to go down to San Diego after some parts this morning but I got out of it by some smooth talking. I never hear from Meg anymore so I guess she spends all of her time playing with

the new baby. I am going in to town tomorrow afternoon and try to buy me a new cap and some other little things. Mama, Gerald is foolish to want to get in the army with a wife and child to take care of. I was sorry to hear of Francis ear but I don’t see how you found it out unless someone else told you. We had some pretty good fish for dinner today but I have been drinking water all afternoon. We are getting quite a bit of meat lately, also plenty of pie and ice cream. Mama, I will close for now so,
Goodnight
Lots & lots of love & kisses
