Dear Mama –

Just a few lines to let you know that I am feeling fine and I hope you are the same. I haven’t received the papers yet or any mail in two days so I hope you aren’t sick. We had another dust storm followed by a rainstorm this afternoon so it is pretty cool tonight. Some of our men are going down into Southern California Monday to take some trucks but I don’t want to go as it is too long and tiresome a trip. Two of my buddies got a pass and went down into Mexico and brought back a lot of stuff so after I get my furlough I think I will go down and stay a few days.

There must not be much of a shortage of pork because we are really having a lot of it but it sure tastes good. Mama, you haven’t mentioned Gene Lately and I have been wondering where he is now. From all accounts ToTo must have done him pretty darned dirty but I hope he doesn’t let him worry him as he can get a lot more. I doubt if he will ever be the same when he gets out because the army makes wild ones tame and tame ones wild. I still haven’t been out in a month but I have quite a lot of fun right around the camp.

Mama about all that I want is for this war to be over and for you to be living when I come home so that I can take care of you and we can have a place of our own. Everyone seems pretty certain that the war in Europe will be over this year and then things will be a lot better. I want to walk over to the ball game so I will close for tonight, so,

Goodnight
Lots & lots of love & kisses
Bill
