Dear Mama –

Just a few lines to let you know that I am feeling fine and I hope you are well and the weather is cooler. We have had two of the hottest days of the year out here but the nights are still nice for sleeping. All men in limited service are getting out pretty soon but I don’t know if my eye will get me out or not. I had a letter from Gene yesterday and it was sure good to hear from him. I am still not sure just when I will get my furlough but I am pretty sure it will be about Sept. 1. I have asked for a transfer to California

twice but the C.O. says he can’t get anyone to take my place yet. It is raining in the mountains all around us today but the sun is still shining here but I sure hope it rains tonight. There isn’t very many places to go around here and I haven’t been to town in about three weeks. I am just beginning to get my mail straightened out and your letters have been coming pretty regular. Ola has written me two letters and both of them got here about the same time as one of them went to Camp Locket and had 3¢ postage due. I was sure sorry to hear about Marie Cain because for

some reason I always liked her. Mama, Vance might be right in quitting his job but for his own sake I think he should stick with it for awhile. Gene says he is beginning to like the army better but will take civilian lif any day. Ola writes like she is happy and I sure hope she is as Rich is a good hearted man and he needs a home also. Mama, I will have to close until tomorrow, so,

Goodnight
Lots & lots of love & kisses
Bill
