'THE ORDER OF MYTHS'
Carnival film wins standing ovation
Documentary explores racial divide in Mobile's Mardi Gras celebrations
By Mike Brantley
TV & Media Editor
Mobilian Margaret Brown's documentary "The Order of Myths," about the racially divided Mardi Gras celebrations in her hometown, ended with a standing ovation from a majority of the 1,762 patrons who attended the film's Saenger Theatre premiere Thursday night. [...]
The film also gave attention to the story of the Clotilda - spelled Clotilde on screen - a schooner built by Mobile shipbuilder Timothy Meaher before the outbreak of the Civil War. The ship is infamous as the last slave vessel to bring African captives to an American shore, having transported a cargo of 106 Africans in 1860.
